That then has to assume that they've encountered all of our species before.
( which is a very eye-opening idea. either they really have or there's something else behind it, a more powerful being that allows them to have access to such information and capabilities )
Particularly since nothing has gone wrong with them.
Could be that, or it could be that the ship's AI scanned us thoroughly to get all the necessary data to be able to program the nanites to adapt to each of us individually.
[ For instance, even adapting to diseases or conditions specific to one individual. ]
But yes, it's an option. Too bad there's not a lot of information on what species this ship's come into contact before us.
It's entirely possible. Unfortunately, I'm not too skilled with computers. I know how to use them, and I know more than the basic, but I don't knew enough to be digging too deep for hidden information.
[ He pulls up one of the menus so she sees the interface he's been working with. ]
Besides, I've barely just gotten started. I might yet run into more relevant information.
[ Leonard nods and goes back to looking through the computer. There are a lot of files to sift through, but some are empty, others seem to have damaged or incomplete data, but otherwise there is a lot of text, some images as well, a variety of information about the ship and its workings.
There are files on the flora aboard, as he'd expected, as well as information on any currently crew-run projects, if there are any. Leonard's got his own files with personal medical information on a handful of crew members already, including himself. ]
I do think it's very much necessary. There aren't many of us, and I'd say the biggest portion doesn't know the first thing about space travel. It's true that the ship's running just fine on its own for now, but we don't know when that might change. We don't know when another hostile force will cross our paths, or if the next planet we visit will be at all friendly.
[ He pauses, then goes on to specify, ] And I don't think there are a lot of doctors, either. I'd wager I'm the only doctor who's used to space travel, and accustomed to dealing with all kinds of different species on a regular basis. There will undoubtedly be some new species for me to learn about, but that learning process at least won't be new to me. And I'll have the information I need to save them, should anything ever happen to them.
[ Especially anything that the nanites might not be able to fix. ]
[ He raises his eyebrows, smiling. He wasn't quite asking her to yet, although it is true he would eventually, just like he would ask the same of all the other people on board. He wouldn't force anyone if they refused, obviously, but he's evidently glad that she offers before he even asks. ]
Good. I mean, we should have time today, if you want to do it after we're done here.
Hmm that might be a good idea, just in case I change my mind.
( it's playful, she wasnt planning on changing her mind but even though she thought it was a good idea there are certainly anomalies that are hard to explain even with well-practiced lies )
Now, what about those other folders? There was one on the gardens.
[ They'll cross that bridge when they come to it. For now, he's distracted when she brings up the gardens, and he clears his throat. ]
Right, yes. There's a file on that. There's information on many of the plants, some of which should look familiar, the others not so much. It's a lot to sift through, but you're free to access it anytime you want and read up on it.
[ Still, he opens the folder, so she can go through some of the plants listed if she feels like it. ]
( she taps the first bit and then he's right, some of it is pretty intuitive. it's easy to find her way through the first couple of menus, finding the main file menu. though after the first couple of menus she ends up clicking into the wrong one )
[ Oh. He sees where she's going but he has no time to stop her, in fact his reaction time is enough that she should be able to get some glimpses from a little self-run experiment he's had with the same plant that had them fooling around the first time they met. Sucking in a breath, he reaches out before she can (hopefully??) read too much on refractory periods or number of ejaculations or the timing on each erection, practically smashing the 'back' button before he dies from embarrassment.
Actually, he might still. What with the way he goes red up to the tips of his ears, that's still very much a possibility. ]
That... sorry. That was a personal file.
[ Yeah, personal alright. Should definitely get that locked. ]
[ Oh good, so she caught onto that. He almost wishes she'd read some of the juicier details than the actual title of the file. Never mind, too late for regrets now. He just tips his head down slightly, pressing his lips in. ]
I, ah... scientific curiosity. [ He glances briefly at her. ] But yes, I did.
Scientific curiosity? Wondering whether it still affected you?
( her initial thought is to believe him, to believe the feeling that she has from him that when he apologised it wasn't a lie, that he isn't just taking flower to see how many people he can fuck. but she is curious about what exactly he's curious about )
No, not that. I figured it would affect me, in fact I was counting on it. I wanted to record data on the flower's effects, anything ranging from mental to physical. Hormonal changes, triggering chemicals, that... kind of thing.
[ He clears his throat and sits upright, feeling keenly self-conscious about this. He further adds without looking at her. ]
The last time I was... ah, kind of distracted. Didn't really get the chance to gather much information, and I thought it would prove useful. If we have this kind of thing on board. But I didn't want to subject anyone else to its effects.

How about you keep going and I'll let you know if I see anything interesting?
( granted when you didn't know any of it interesting could be nothing but it could also be something )

( she pauses him as he gets to the medical records, a curious look up at him )
Is that just information you've collected?
no subject
Yes. They're medical files on the few people who've been willing to let me keep information on them.
[ And they're locked and confidential, of course, though she may recognize a name or two. ]
no subject
( not that it's important, just a curiosity. she's also never had a medical exam here )
no subject
[ Jim Kirk, obviously, and the young girl who came to medical with a big burn wound. Ashla. ]

( had they had a doctor before? she'd not asked not really thought to check. she'd have gone if she'd needed something but she'd been healthy )
Though with everything we encounter on the planets we don't know what could affect us.

Then I'll stop by one day. Just in case.
( she wanted to hope that just in case wasn't necessary but she was mortal, she had to be careful )

[ When he has to, anyway. Some of the menu options are fairly intuitive so she might be able to find her way by simply reading some of the files.
He pulls up to the start menu, then points at the first file. ]
Alright, click there.

an amused, curious look that she's going to make worse by turning slightly on her chair to look at him )
You went back for that flower.
( she didn't get the details of what he'd been testing or his results but there'd definitely been some reference to the flower in what she'd seen )

Perhaps you should have something with you to help you monitor the effects.
( and now it's her turn to blush slightly because that's not what she meant )
To make sure that you're okay.
