[ He doesn't change much knowing she'll be dropping by, save perhaps for the fact that he does make sure not to leave the labs just in case she shows up.

Aside from the basic uniform, he's wearing a lab coat over it, that much at least making him feel more comfortable on board. Habit, nothing else. He's jotting down some notes on a datapad when she comes in, and he looks up to greet her with a smile, setting the datapad aside while getting to his feet. ]

Not at all. Besides, I appreciate some company.

[ Well, her company, anyway. He gestures to the seats in front of a computer interface. ] Make yourself comfortable.

Information on the nanites, mostly. I'm compiling what I can find and comparing it to what I've seen from a sample of my own blood.

[ He points to one of the machines, an advanced version of a microscope, a tiny sample of his blood there. ]

Nanite technology isn't new to me, but seeing it this advanced and so successfully applied in the field of medicine is... well, amazing, to be quite honest.

So far, I haven't noticed any physical or physiological changes, nor have I felt them in myself. The most noticeable change, and I'm guessing the main purpose of these nanites, is accelerated regeneration. So they help our body heal injuries or combat sickness at a much faster rate. Possibly even treat things that we normally might've not been able to with the resources we have on board.

[ Leonard's naturally suspicious, however, so forgive him if he's gonna study this back and forth to make sure these tiny little machines aren't doing something weird to them in the background, while no one's looking. ]

[ Leonard nods at the question, having already thought of that himself. ]

Yes, it seems they are capable of adapting to various species. I've met at least one non-human girl whose nanites work exactly the same way. It's led me to believe that the ship's always had a crew comprised of different species, possibly even the main species manning it might've not been human at all. We could very well be the odd ones out and not even know it.

Could be that, or it could be that the ship's AI scanned us thoroughly to get all the necessary data to be able to program the nanites to adapt to each of us individually.

[ For instance, even adapting to diseases or conditions specific to one individual. ]

But yes, it's an option. Too bad there's not a lot of information on what species this ship's come into contact before us.

It's entirely possible. Unfortunately, I'm not too skilled with computers. I know how to use them, and I know more than the basic, but I don't knew enough to be digging too deep for hidden information.

[ He pulls up one of the menus so she sees the interface he's been working with. ]

Besides, I've barely just gotten started. I might yet run into more relevant information.

[ Leonard nods and goes back to looking through the computer. There are a lot of files to sift through, but some are empty, others seem to have damaged or incomplete data, but otherwise there is a lot of text, some images as well, a variety of information about the ship and its workings.

There are files on the flora aboard, as he'd expected, as well as information on any currently crew-run projects, if there are any. Leonard's got his own files with personal medical information on a handful of crew members already, including himself. ]

[ His hand pulls from the panel when she speaks up, and he looks between her and the files. ]

Yes. They're medical files on the few people who've been willing to let me keep information on them.

[ And they're locked and confidential, of course, though she may recognize a name or two. ]

I'd have to check now, what with the rescue. But no more than a handful so far, at best. Regular, complete scans, I have only of two people.

[ Jim Kirk, obviously, and the young girl who came to medical with a big burn wound. Ashla. ]

I do think it's very much necessary. There aren't many of us, and I'd say the biggest portion doesn't know the first thing about space travel. It's true that the ship's running just fine on its own for now, but we don't know when that might change. We don't know when another hostile force will cross our paths, or if the next planet we visit will be at all friendly.

[ He pauses, then goes on to specify, ] And I don't think there are a lot of doctors, either. I'd wager I'm the only doctor who's used to space travel, and accustomed to dealing with all kinds of different species on a regular basis. There will undoubtedly be some new species for me to learn about, but that learning process at least won't be new to me. And I'll have the information I need to save them, should anything ever happen to them.

[ Especially anything that the nanites might not be able to fix. ]

[ He raises his eyebrows, smiling. He wasn't quite asking her to yet, although it is true he would eventually, just like he would ask the same of all the other people on board. He wouldn't force anyone if they refused, obviously, but he's evidently glad that she offers before he even asks. ]

Good. I mean, we should have time today, if you want to do it after we're done here.

[ They'll cross that bridge when they come to it. For now, he's distracted when she brings up the gardens, and he clears his throat. ]

Right, yes. There's a file on that. There's information on many of the plants, some of which should look familiar, the others not so much. It's a lot to sift through, but you're free to access it anytime you want and read up on it.

[ Still, he opens the folder, so she can go through some of the plants listed if she feels like it. ]

Yes, of course. Actually, you give it a try. I'll point you the right way.

[ When he has to, anyway. Some of the menu options are fairly intuitive so she might be able to find her way by simply reading some of the files.

He pulls up to the start menu, then points at the first file. ]

Alright, click there.
